[#224]

Hello! I was wondering if it might be possible for there to be a build world available to players that can be traveled to without having to trouble staff. While I recognize there are potential issues (bringing back default materials, potential loss of lored items, plugin uncertainty, etc.), I think that there may be ways to mitigate or erase those.

My concept would work as follows:

– One of the different-inventory-by-world plugins. There are multiple available and many appear to fulfill the same function, which would prevent bringing items back and forth twixt player build world and regular world. I think Saphriel uses the Multiverse-Core plugin? In which case https://modrinth.com/plugin/multiverse-inventories would likely work! Alternatively, there are options for plugins to adjust inventory by gamemode.

– Disable command blocks for the world / block access to them for non-OP’d users. Doable via server properties or permission changes!

– Access is managed through a sign teleport placed somewhere unobtrusive. As a failsafe, it’d probably be good to make sure that players toss their inventories into a box near the sign before going to the build world as well, which should help if something goes wrong and rollback is needed. Likely not needed with world-specific inventories, but it may still prove helpful.

– No world-edit availability, just creative mode to prevent potential accidental crashes.

– Player-Plus only, to help prevent abuse of the system. Use a locked door + bedrock, potentially? With the lock being modified as needed for Player plus access.

– Access to creative mode. Within the player build world would be a little cube controlled by a repeating command block set to Always instead of Needs Redstone, which creates an area in a certain distance around it that constantly sets players to survival mode (if they aren’t already in it) around the warp sign that leads back to Real Life. A ways outside this area could be a sign via Essentials to set one’s gamemode to creative. I would happily make the exacts for this if this suggestion is approved!

While I am unsure of how large of a concern it would be, preventing meta knowledge on what other players are working on might be able to be handled via a setup like the one described above within a ‘lobby’ for the build world itself, just with specific warps to far-away places and locked doors for each user.

I would love to hear thoughts on this, and will happily spitball solutions to other issues if staff are open to this concept in general!

I suggested something kinda similar in the past I think… I still support the concept.

In general having more freedom for building on server helps on so many fronts as both a player and a builder. Especially if there’s a method to go to the space directly as just a player or what not. Like even clicking a thing in spawn or something idk. I just very much support this concept!

I think a lot of players would also enjoy a server space like this for preparing personal things, conceptual ic things for their characters, and so on. Like if it ran smoothly it would be a huge net positive to general freedom/creativity

We looked this over and decided we shall not support a build world for players. Despite all assurances, it still creates far too much overhead for an already overworked staff including general security. As well, if you wish to build you can use single player worlds quite easily and if needed the schematics may be transferred through Polo or me. Setting game modes is handled through direct interaction with staff for security purposes.

This doesn’t prevent people from building or testing ideas themselves and anyone can make a character who focuses on building. This does not serve a significant enough purpose.

The biggest limitation with the current method is that people can’t easily work on things together as a group, whether for ic reasons or ooc desires to do so. It makes large projects difficult to manage or plan with others… Which is also a problem I’ve personally had myself even as a member of Build Team. And in the past the only way they’ve been done is through a very slow/clunky method of schematic telephone, direct aid/help from staff members which gives them more work, or through players making a private server that they host with their own money or such. All of these aren’t entirely ideal for simply two or more players wanting to work on a build together for the server, and it makes things more difficult to approach/do.

If we referenced plugins/systems used in Creative Servers, couldn’t this be done in a manner that wouldn’t require needless staff oversight and extra work? It might be something that is initially time consuming to set up, I can’t imagine plugins are simple, but once done Player+ could simply be able to do what they want without potential of abuse.

It still does not serve a significant enough purpose, distracts from the RP of the server and does not lessen overhead so no.
