IC Information

Character name: Cillian Dubhan

Race: High Elf

Age: 68 (Narvinye 25th)

Gender: Male

Character Description: He’s 7’ with royal blue hair past his knees. Generally done up in extravagant braids or styles. One braid being mixed with strands of white, light blue and green. Deep blue eyes that once held mirth but now hold a storm of emotions. Pale skin in contrast to the deep blue of his hair. A tattoo wraps his shoulders, the ink depicting a wreath of laurels (to represent his best friend) with clovers (to represent his son), lily of the valley (to represent his wife) and blue roses (himself) intertwined.

Character Occupation: Herbalist and Florist, he has spent a long time travelling and learning the meanings and uses of plants. So if you want healing herbs or a passive aggressive bouquet he can help.

Character Personality/Traits: He used to be very kind and good natured to all. Generally very fun all around. But after the losses of his family he has gotten a lot colder. More snippy, more closed off. He tends to speak very plainly and straight to the point, no longer as amused by bullshittery or jokes. A character arc I want is for him to get back to how he was.

Character Biography:

He has found a calling to plants from a young age. Where he shadowed his father, Eideard Dubhan, in being a healer, making simple medicines from herbs and such. Eideard also taught Cillian how to use magic, trying to take some time each day to teach and practice with him. His mother Lileas Dubhan, just tended to stay home. She was always distant and unhappy, never leaving the house. She felt as if the house was a prison. She only occasionally paid attention to Cillian, and if she was she told him stories of Silivrenmîr. Always sad, to the point their neighbors called her Eideard’s ghost wife. His father was strict and heavily taught Cillian to respect all nature and to never take it for granted. He wasn’t the kindest father but he paid attention and wanted to help his son through mistakes. His father also found teachers for Cillian in the magic aspects he couldn’t teach. When not shadowing his father or doing lessons he spent the rest of his time exploring the surrounding forests with his best friend Beathan Friseal. Beathan was the only person he felt truly himself around. Feeling as if he could properly enjoy being a kid. As he grew and explored the forests with Beathan he found that his feelings went a bit deeper than friendship, and Beathan felt the same, but they chose to hide it away and ignore the feelings. When they were 17 the two met Iseabail Ainsley, 18, when she went to meet Cillian’s father, Eideard, to learn more about plants. The two boys immediately were enamoured and wanted her to join them on their explorations. She, excitedly, agreed to join them. However she found more joy in the flowers she could find while the boys sparred or tried to figure out their magics. The three grew incredibly close as they continued to age. But with their aging came maturity and a somewhat better understanding of their world.
When he was 23 and the pact war ended, his mother seemed to get somewhat better now that the war was over but she still was very detached. Cillian, Beathan and Iseabail went more often on trips away from home to explore their world and learn. The three finally left home a few months after Cillian turned 30. Cillian and Iseabail’s main hope for their travels across the lands was to learn about as many plants and flowers as possible. Cillian doing his best on notetaking and Iseabail doing the sketches. Beathan learned more about swordsmanship in the towns they passed through. The three grew closer beyond just friendship but never expressed such unless they were alone for certain. Cillian and Iseabail got married when they were 32 and 33. A small ceremony with just the three of them and the officiant, Beathan as their best man and ring bearer.

About 5 years later they were planning to travel up a mountain for a specific flower Iseabail had heard about in a nearby town. However the trail up the mountain was dangerous. So they hired a group of mercenaries to protect them as they traveled.
The group was a ragtag group of people. One of the most notable being another high elf with purple hair who came to be known as Koehen. Cillian tended to stay across the group as possible to escape the scent of booze. Beathan chatted with a human named Jerick. The two ended up seeing who could toss and catch knives better. It was Beathan.. As Jerick ended up with a slice across his hand. Cillian begrudgingly helped clean and patch up the wound, using some of the herbs he keeps on hand and water magic. Iseabail tried to stay nice with everyone but was quite shy and stayed near either Beathan or Cillian, mostly Cillian. The trip took about two weeks but was calm and Iseabail got to see the flowers she wanted to see.

At age 39, Cillian and crew heard about the Royal Wedding. A High Elven Lady marrying the King Regent. Cillian wasn’t outraged but It didn’t sit right with him after how he was raised. Iseabail and Bethan were less put off by it. Out of the three of them Cillian was the one who tended to try not to talk to non high elves. It just made him not feel comfortable, although he didn’t understand why. The idea of half elves and relationships between elves and any other race made him uncomfortable.

The year of his 56th birthday Iseabail gave birth to their son Darragh. Cillian was so incredibly happy, spending as much time with and holding his son. His whole world revolved around his son now. Every day seemed to shine brighter. The next few years they continued their adventures while also showering Darragh continued to be showered in love and affection from his parents and ‘uncle’. Darragh’s first word was ‘dada’ in elvish. Cillian was ecstatic and he,Iseabail and Beathan tended to playfully argue about it.

The year he turned 58 the four of them went to mourn and give their respects at Lord Parcivale Arrynlocke’s funeral and then the following coronation. Iseabail making a bouquet of flowers that symbolize grief and respects to leave respectfully at the funeral.

Over the next several years the trio taught Darragh about flowers, magic and swordplay. Darragh found a love for clovers and swordplay. Saying he wanted to be a guard when he was older. Beathan was super excited and taught Darragh whenever he wanted. Cillian would sometimes join the two for roughhousing and playfighting. Cillian calling these years the best of his life, also when he got a tattoo to represent them and a locket with a painting of them all. He celebrated every day he spent with his loved ones. His favorite days were the ones where he would get up to make breakfast for everyone and then go on nature walks with Iseabail, while Darragh spent time with Beathan. He would then make lunch and talk with Beathan about their childhood or practicing swordsmanship. Iseabail teaching Darragh about magic. Ending the night with dinner from Iseabail and Cillian teaching Darragh about herbs and their uses. Then telling stories to him as he went to sleep, almost always falling asleep holding his son on these nights.

The year of Darragh’s 10th birthday and Cillian’s 66th, they were travelling the long way back home to visit Cillian’s parents and their hometown. The days seemed to drone on and on. One night they stopped very late aside a rode to camp. They were too far from any towns and too tired to go any further. They set up camp, taking their time and trying to relax. Darragh was practically sleepwalking and crashed as soon as his bedroll was set up. Cillian unloaded his bag and gear by the campfire, grabbing his herb knife. Leaving behind his other weapons, trinkets and things. Telling Iseabail and Beathan that he was going to find herbs for teas, Iseabail replying she would join him soon. Cillian spent a while gathering herbs, having gotten intrigued by one he didn’t recognize before he realized Iseabail hadn’t come to join him. Making his way back to camp, everything was unsettlingly quiet. No voices or anything, he figured maybe they all went to bed early. But once he got back to the camp he quickly realized he was wrong. Almost all of their gear (trinkets, weapons, food, coin) was gone except for his herb bag and the bedrolls. The worst being Iseabail and Beathan laying next to the fire with arrows in their necks. He ran across the camp crying out and holding them while he sobbed his eyes out. Almost too scared to look in the tent where Darragh was. When he did he felt like he could die, Darragh had his neck slashed. His face still peaceful with sleep. He sobbed for hours over the loss of his family. Mourning into the next night, when he took locks of the three’s hair and braided them into his own hair. Gathering his strength to make a pyre and lay his loved ones to rest. He spent the rest of that night praying. The next morning he took his herb bag with its jars and journals, his herb knife, bedroll and remaining strength to leave.

Every day was hell for Cillian. He made enough of a living on selling herbs, flowers and small medicines from his herbs. Travelling town to town. Most days he could barely get out of bed in the morning. His travels leading him to Falkvard after he turned 68.

Other/Extra (Images, notes, etc.):
Would it be possible for Cillian to have his locket and journal of flowers and herbs as lored items when he is created? I can write the lore for them

Magic Biography:

Cillian’s father had him tested at a young age, where he found he had potential in water, earth, wind and alteration. His father got him weak trinkets for water and earth, and his mother gave him her alteration trinket. His father taught and trained Cillian in water and earth magics, While also finding teachers for Cillian in wind and alteration magics. He would also practice his magics when playing with Beathan. As he got older and stronger in his magic he would use his power for growing plants, making herbs and very simple medicines. He would also use water magic to help with cleaning small wounds. He would also use alteration magic to help repair clothes and stuff on the road while travelling. He wouldn’t use it for fighting or anything so he never learned to super high levels.

Please describe the magic system, including its limitations in your own words:

Casting requires a trinket that also goes with the level of magic you know. It also requires months of ic practice to get better. If you don’t practice your magic can fade away like a muscle if you don’t use it. If you overuse your magic you can gain extreme exhaustion or even die. The different levels of magic can allow you to do different things. Like starting at a weak point you can barely do anything where as at a divine level you could move lakes with some effort. For high elves specifically they can have up to four aspects and most elves have magic. Magic doesn’t allow you to do anything overpowered or godlike.

Please describe how you would use a weak trinket with your characters first/only aspect:

With a weak water trinket Cillian would use the power for watering his plants and mixing teas. He would find it tiring and only able to water one plant at a time with his magic but would still want to practice. When making tea he would make small ripples on the surface to infuse the tea and mix it.
