Character Description: Balthasar is as stocky as one might expect of a half dwarf, and stands at 5’9 with room to grow as he enters late adolescence. His facial hair is beginning to come in, and his youthful features are giving way to manhood. He has short light brown hair, hazel eyes, and fair skin. He is often bruised or donned with small cuts from physical activity and his hands are calloused. Balthasar is usually dressed in typical patched up workwear.

Character Occupation: None, seeking apprenticeship

Character Personality/Traits: Balthasar is eager to set off on his own. Now that he is getting older, his parents have given him free rein over his career choices, and he is actively seeking out apprenticeship. The physical trades have always most interested him, even as a young child. He is naturally drawn to mining, stoneworking, construction, logging and the likes. He is smart, especially regarding numbers and calculations, home educated by his mother. He can be either boisterous and outgoing among friends or incredibly reserved and subdued around the less acquainted. Incredibly self motivated, he has wider ambitions to be successful in life and spread the wealth to his loved ones. Balthasar has been known to get himself into trouble if he is influenced by less behaved peers and is easily impressionable.

Character Biography: Born in the year 101 to two half dwarf parents who never really addressed their lineage, in Falkvard, Balthasar has already been around for considerable crises in the Kingdom. The deep winter, the cult’s attack on Falkvard, the rise of Anjra, to name a few. The deep winter was early on in his childhood and he has little memory of it, but what does remain, such as watching people starve and freeze while the family rationed what little they had, made its mark on Balthasar and will never leave him. After the deep winter ended, he felt gratitude for the sun and began spending almost all hours of his day outdoors, except to sleep, perform chores, or be educated. As soon as he was allowed to wander past the confines of his street, he began exploring, most often visiting construction sites, foundries, etc, watching the workers perform their jobs and getting to know them, fascinated by the finished products and the processes used. The affairs of the monarchy were background noise to the family at this time, but still Balthasar managed to wander in range of the coronation and later the royal wedding, and witnessed both from the sidelines. He made friends with other local children and frequently got into trouble during this time, nothing serious but usual juvenile behavior. This grace period in his upbringing ended when the cult attacked Falkvard, when he was 13. So badly he wanted to take up a weapon and fight to protect his family and neighbors, but he was physically restrained by his father after a crazy man screaming about Behmos tried to give him a doohickey hatchet with a long-dead squirrel nailed to it. The following events with Anjra and the void led to Balthasar pushing for his own independence against the fears of his mother and father, but after the threat ended, his pleas were finally answered. His protective parents finally granted him his wish, permitting him to go out and try to find an apprenticeship, and strike out on his own. His family remains near and dear to his heart and he will be visiting them frequently as time allows.
