Citizens of Saphriel and Manadh Calad,

It is with sorrow and regret that I inform you of the wrecking of the Tidebreaker, the vessel of the Hunters. For many years its crew had lit upon Falkvard, Whitecliff, Crowsport and more places across the land. Its sails had been seen outside Fort Evergreen and even in the Bleaks. A mighty vessel, it had weathered many storms and more battles. The crew was a well oiled tinkering, ready to tackle the world.

After much investigation we have found that the vessel was attacked by what we believe is a water drake, an elementally aligned lesser draconic figure like fire drakes or frost drakes. They normally avoid civilization but can be provoked. This happened here, where Fa’ren had thrown an explosive at it as it was likely passing by. Once angered it climbed aboard the ship. There it seems he panicked and used a magical item that prevented anyone from moving appropriately, a defensive tool good if you’re outnumbered but often bad if you outnumber the enemy.

This prevented anyone from reaching the cannons. The drake slew them and we recovered most of the bodies. The Kurol and many ships are doing their best to find the four that are missing.

We are taking steps to double down on the training of all Hunters in the face of panic and in decorum on ships so that this will not occur again. This is why all such things are best done in at least pairs. Official kingdom ships will no longer offer to assist civilian fishers with casual netting or fishing from their decks unless explicitely permitted under supervision from the crew and captain.

Please let this be a lesson. Everyone makes a mistake in the heat of combat. Fa’ren’s was damning and cost many families, families we’re assisting right now. And it cost the Kingdom a ship, as well as his own life. The ring he used is one of many, many magical items that you must think before using. Anything that impacts terrain, movement, or the field must be considered carefully. We are all responsible for each other.
