Character Name:
Sebastian ‘Canary’ Rozenwald
Race:
Half-Elf/Human
Age:
79
Gender: Male
Character Description:
A ‘young man’ standing at 5’7”, Sebastian is lanky and taut, a light skin tone. His head is crowned with golden halo of hair and one bright gray-blue eye, one eye -his right, is missing. Giving way to darkness. He favors his left side, being completely blind on the right. If one were to get a good look, Sebastian has been riddled with small healed scars and cuts, a prominent scar along the back of his neck due to being beaten and bludgeoned to near death.
Due to Sebastian’s unusual situation from his time in Saphriel, he exhibits some unique physical traits:
– While mortal, his figure exhibits a mix of porcelain and flesh. His skin is stained vitiligo similar to delft patterning with raised golden filigree that traces his body.
– Blue flowers that appear from open wounds, sickness, and that currently inhabit his empty eye socket
– A subtle ticking and gear sound that pairs in unison with his repaired fleshy heartbeat
His general wear used to be quite formal, always wearing vests, always wearing jackets. Often wearing black slacks over sandals or well loved brown boots. Though recently his tidy attire has slipped into bright playful patterns and colors, or the bare minimum of modesty. He has an eyepatch that he will wear, if he remembers.
Character Occupation:
Tinkerer, Toymaker (specializes in Dollmaking), Teashop enthusiast
Character Personality Traits:
Sebastian is exceedingly blunt and speaks before he thinks, often correcting himself and working hard to shut himself up. Otherwise, extremely well mannered and polite, Sebastian treats most with the utmost respect. As long as he can keep his unkind thoughts from slipping out of his mouth. Overall he tends to feel genuine regret when he says something rude, and often apologises profusely.
Since losing his vision, Sebastian has become more lax. He can actually be quite inwardly emotional, though he rarely outwardly expresses his negative emotions. He is wracked by a burning guilt for what he has failed to accomplish, which drives his current desire to press onwards.
He’s also quite the airhead.
Character Biography:
As early as he can recall, Sebastian was an orphan, referred to as ‘Canary’ due to his distinct blond hair. He grew up in the winding streets of Rosenrot, gathering other children around his age and creating his own group centered around surviving. Those years were as peaceful as they could be, his closest companion being Rhapsody, who’s true name was Lark. While days passed peacefully, eventually Sebastian was noted by the Lord Rozenwald, the overseer of Rosenrot. An eccentric elven man who was known to add people to his ‘collections.’
He took Sebastian’s physical imperfections as points of interest, and decided to raise him as his own son and heir. Catching the ire of some other members of the Rozenwald family who had also come from nothing. Sebastian was raised as one would raise a noble, stuck in constant etiquette classes and avoiding tension with his new family.
He eventually started to crack under the pressure. The estate was often referred to as a Gilded Birdcage, and it was one of the few rumors that rang true. It was hard to leave, and it was easier to stay. Sebastian had a few freedoms, and if he couldn’t get his father to listen to him, he’d find other ways to relieve his stress. This included sneaking out from lessons, meeting with his old gang, and getting into trouble.
His only other solace being the library, which he only visited to bother the child of his father’s friend, Cael. It was one of the few times he’d put his head down, listening to his friend talk about what he’d read, history, things that Sebastian didn’t really care about but for some reason it felt more interesting aloud.
Otherwise, Sebastian loved fighting and testing his wits. This usually was done through friendly sparring, but he had no issues with fighting dirty. He often agreed to get into fights on behalf of others, partially to offer a helping hand, but also to have an excuse to fight at all.
At some point old friends contacted him, and still caring about his origins he agreed to stir up some trouble against a group that acted against them. During this time he connected with old friends and convinced his father to allow Lark, his old friend, the opportunity to work as a servant in the mansion. Though there was a condition that Sebastian would take his studies seriously.
Over time, he made enemies. And had to balance hiding his gang activities from his father with his daily classes and expectations as a Lord. He spent most of his time studying, visiting his friend in the library and secretly sharing his adventures, and then slinking out to manage the brewing storm between gangs. Unbeknownst to Sebastian, he had drawn the attention of Lark’s older sister. She was a jealous woman, and while she also benefited from Lark’s position at the Rozenwald’s, she took issue with the favor that Sebastian showed to her brother. Suspecting that Sebastian would never look her way, she blamed her brother for seducing him, claiming that he’d walked the heir of the Rozenwald’s down a road of temptation with another man.
She pushed her brother off a bridge. The body fell, then quickly trampled by an oncoming cart, mangling and mutilating the body just in time for Sebastian to watch, in horror, as his younger friend found his death. She took her life shortly after, leaving just enough of a trail for Sebastian to find her hanging body. A note left behind. ‘I can’t let myself suffer.’
Sebastian’s rage had nowhere left to go. Any chance of revenge stolen away. He wandered that night, later caught reprimanded by his father for putting himself in danger. In a state of near delirium, desperation, and frustration he stole back into the night to clear his head and weary heart. Though his father had been right.
It happened quickly. Something struck him from behind, his weaker side, causing him to stagger. War was waged on his body, though he couldn’t say exactly how. Ultimately he was left bleeding in the street. Then nothing.
His body was found and quickly returned to his estate. Rozenwald, driven by grief, simply ordered that Sebastian’s body be preserved and taken care of until he woke up. As he was suffering from a coma, years went into maintaining the heirs body like a well loved doll. Food, drink, appearance, range of motion and the constant care of a Holy Mage. At first, the doctor was driven purely by curiosity, and then obsession, wondering if the boy would ever wake from his dark slumber.
One day he did wake up. Unaware of the time that transpired and not having much time to process the incident before he was pulled into a tight embrace. The doctor, who had spent ten years conditioning and taking care of Sebastian, swore to help the man get back on his feet.
Over time, Sebastian felt something amiss. The doctor hadn’t mentioned anything about returning him to his father, not that he wanted to return. Any rumors of Lord Rozenwald seemed strange and bizzare, he heard whispers that his friend Cael had fallen into an endless slumber, and the doctor, while attentive and caring, treated Sebastian more like an object. Like a doll. It was as if a kind of madness had fallen over the Estate. He truly felt like a bird in the cage, and he knew he had to leave.
So, he slipped from the Rozenwald home once more, perfectly unaware of the time that had transpired, took a boat, and ended up on the shores of Falkvard.
Sebastian attempted to start a new life there, opening a tea shop, joining the Tinkerer’s, creating a workshop and attempting to find some sort of purpose to distract him from Rosenrot. He even found people of interest, those that he considered close and others that he admired. Sebastian attempted to form deeper connections, but found the joy short lived when he discovered that he was not as important to this person as he was to him. His relationships continued to take a tumble, once again dealing with either obsession or apathy.
Feeling cheated, frustrated, and heartbroken. Sebastian offered up a deal to the fae. He didn’t want to be hurt anymore, it would have been better if he really was a doll. If he had been a doll, he could have been content to sit in place, if he was a doll, he could have settled with having nothing, if he was a doll, he could accept how his father, how the doctor, how everyone treated him. He sold his heart, his personal items, and his service. The deal was done. But he wouldn’t know the full price until much later.
Many were not pleased with Sebastian’s decision, and Sebastian resigned himself to drifting. He was affected by the Cult’s memory curse, and was not checked on for years. As a doll, it was easy enough for him to persist, and while the curse would have normally undone him, it ended up saving his life. Though not his memory.
Sebastian lost a lot of time to the curse and to the fae, isolated in his tea shop and talking to dreams of dreams, recalling vague glimpses of doll houses and vague promises after he was cursed. Though memories lost to the Cult were not easily recovered. While Sebastian was eventually cured through another fae deal, he still struggled to keep up with the day to day. But his time had to move forward, and he started to take steps with the assistance of others..
He encountered his old friend, Cael, someone that he had never planned to meet. Though he’d heard murmurs of him in the past, his guilt had stopped him from seeking him out. It was a rough encounter, and Sebastian finally had to accept that his current way of living was not acceptable.
He was never good with time, despite the constant ticking that accompanied him, regardless he took time to think. He decided to write and scrapbook his returning memories in a journal, and to make attempts to interact with others. A compilation of his guilt and heartache, his frustration and desires. He wanted to go back, he wasn’t quite sure why or what that meant. What he’d actually feel, if he ever got the chance to return, but it was a new goal. Something etched in paper. At some point, like the finale of a dream, Sebastian woke up feeling different.
At some point his hair had started growing again, though he rarely saw his reflection, it came as a start when he felt the strands against his shoulders. He wasn’t sure when, but at some point his joints no longer felt loose, like things had fused together. He started to notice blemishes, strange marks, raised skin and well, skin at all. Shapes that reminded him of his homeland, curves that reminded him of his past. Sensation had returned to him at some point. He was hungrier than usual, parched, his body felt sore and like he hadn’t stretched in decades. He found his breath stuttering, sometimes gasping for breath after holding it at all.
Another day, but slightly different. He descended the stairs to his teashop to find everything missing. Not a single drop of tea or a scrap of food. He was missing a few things really, old clothes, scraps. Silver- well he was never good at tracking that. But most importantly, he was missing his right eye. He wasn’t sure what kind of burglar could successfully pluck his eye from his face, nor who would swap out his clothes…
He didn’t have much time to muse. In his idle thoughts he discovered one other thing, something he’d forgotten about. Crimson on his palm, perhaps he’d cut it operating the lift, or when he was searching the cupboards. One thing was for certain though. He normally didn’t bleed.
His time was ticking again. And while he wouldn’t age, he was once again mortal. If he could bleed, he could be killed. And with a mix of panic and glee, Sebastian realized that he didn’t know how to do first aid anymore.
Oh Gods he didn’t know first aid.

Requested P+ Item: Sebastian’s Scrapjournal
Sebastian still may require alteration or additional steps to recover from injury, as his body is still unusual, despite being sturdier.
