Character Name: Eudora Delfaene

Race: High Elf

Age: 102

Gender: Female

Character Description: Standing at 7ft even, she has a looming appearance, like a tree staring down at a child in a desolate field. Light sage green hair is pulled loosely back into a bun which only makes her pale skin look almost green in her complexion. She always seems to stare down through her pinch bridge glasses, sickly green eyes always analyzing those she meets as if reading a new book eagerly. She wears her clothes to a stiff degree, always professional though she could take better care of her gloves, which she wears almost constantly to keep from having to touch too much skin in her day to day life.

Character Occupation: Medic, some experience in surgery though never unassisted.

Character Personality/Traits: She’s a light individual typically, though her sense of humor is dry and sometimes misleading. Eudora isn’t one for the most word play and twisting of words, keeping herself professional in her own, straight forward yet dry way. She will watch conversations and situations before joining, almost dissecting how she should go about the interactions before entering.

Character Biography:

Born in Silivrenmir to parents, Fehlimil Delfaene and Aiobhinn Delfaene. Fehlimil was a soldier at the beginning of the Pact War and her mother, Aiobhinn was holy mage, a healer for the efforts. In year 10 Eudora was born to the pair after the usual years of trying, though the excitement of a child wasn’t long on the couple as Fehlimil was soon slain in the war efforts of defending Manadh Calad, merely a year after Eudora’s birth. Aiobhinn was left to raise the child alone, while still attempting to keep up her station as a healer for the elves. Once Eudora was old enough, her mother would be quick to start training her in the study of surgery and medicine, seeking to keep her from the battlefront and the terrors of battle by instead replacing them with the terrors of operation and healing, though this didn’t keep Aiobhinn from teaching Eudora ways to, in her words, humanely put down half elves when they were out in the world. Eudora would assist her mother in many operations and with basic treatments, soon being able to preform the basic treatments without assistance at the age of 15. Aiobhinn would continue to assist her race in healing during the war efforts, and was openly criticized for her mercy on Half Elves as she tried to make their deaths quick and as painless as possible when found on the field, though since she never gave them treatment, she would only receive verbal judgment from her peers. Eudora, being young, would notice this commentary, believing her mother to be too soft and insult Kinos in showing mercy to such abominations and that her father would never condone such mercy. This would continue, Eudora’s studies into Kinos and Aderoth starting as she moved into basic procedures with her mother’s assistance over the next few years, until tragedy would once again strike. Silivrenmir would fall during Eudora’s 31st year, forcing her and her mother to flee to Barkamsted. It is here that Aiobhinn would begin to forgo her lack of treatment on others, opening a clinic to all so that she and Eudora could assist the struggling over-packed city of Barkamsted, no matter the race or affliction. This kept the pair busy, and with the growing distaste of the other elves for their establishment, Eudora grew more distant from her mother, viewing her as weak and too faint of heart to do what was needed for their race. This continued for years, though Aiobhinn was still stern, and never let Eudora express her lack of faith in her mother’s intention beyond a few short arguments. This would cause a delay in Eudora’s training, her mother restricting her ability to perform in surgeries and procedures saying she believed that Eudora needed more time with the basics before continuing. This of course, frustrated Eudora, but she would comply. In time, the clinic grew, bringing on a few more nurses and doctors, one of these doctors, another high elf who was sympathetic to Aiobhinn’s cause, took interest in Eudora and in training her in the field of surgery. Tanithil Reywynn, a alteration and holy mage, was priceless to Aiobhinn’s clinic. He seemed confused as to why Eudora had been set back, claiming she had the mind for much more complicated work and that when she was performing surgeries before her mother’s restrictions she was adept and skilled in her work. Eudora took quickly to Tanithil, who let her observe his operations and even assist in small things that skirted the line for Eudora’s restrictions. Barkamsted became the last city for man at this time, the clinic becoming overwhelmed with newcomers and the sick. Tanithil and Eudora worked quickly as a team, Aiobhinn finally relieving some restrictions only under Tanithil’s watch while she left with the war efforts to reclaim Falkvard and assist in the alliance with the pact races.

Here is where Eudora’s trust in Tanithil would begin to grow beyond a mentor and student. He showered her with compliments, encouraging her to take risks in procedures and that he would catch her if something were to fail. In her 60s now, Tanithil in his 80s, he would soon propose marriage. She of course, would accept, though they would not marry until they had confirmation from Eudora’s mother, Aiobhinn, who was now in Falkvard, setting up another clinic with the new and small city. At least that is what was assumed, as Tanithil being left as the head of the clinic in Barkamsted would soon deliver the news of Aiobhinn’s death, which he told Eudora was due to an attempt to heal a half elf who instead took advantage of her and took her life in the streets of Falkvard. Whether this was true or false wasn’t on Eudora’s mind, as her mother’s death would be confirmed and she had no reason to distrust Tanithil. This event would make Eudora angry against the half elf abominations rather than the indifference she had grown into. Tanithil spent years calming her from this, convincing her that Kinos had a purpose for all life and that he knew that purpose if she would trust him. The war would end during this time and the Plague soon began, forcing Tanithil to close the clinic for quarantine use only and to lock himself and Eudora up in his small estate to wait out the plague. He would section off his spare rooms to lend out to the less fortunate, typically half races and pact races, but these beds would not stay filled for long, as Tanithil would take the poor souls from their beds in the night and down to the seller of the estate, where he would demonstrate the purpose of these lesser beings to Eudora by dissection, experimenting, and torturing them, disposing of their lifeless and mangled bodies in the piles of plagued zombies. Eudora would watch for a time, still angry but determined to find a reason for such foul creatures; she would soon join Tanithil in his ‘studies’. Up until he brought a half elven child in one night, maybe no older than 2 or 3. Eudora, who wasn’t quiet about her desire for children, couldn’t take this any longer. She broke down, cursing herself for showing her mother’s weakness and disappointing Tanithil, she cried and apologized to him over and over. Tanithil, ever soft with Eudora, agreed to let the child go, holding Eudora and telling her that she can make it up to him and Kinos, that he will work on her weak will with her. Eudora, desperate to appease him, agreed to the help. Soon the Plague had ended, and Tanithil ceased his serial killings and opened the clinic once more, returning himself and Eudora back to their normal work, which Eudora was very much grateful for, despite the increase in casualties from their patients, they pressed on. Despite never solidifying their marriage, they would still attempt for children, as Eudora greatly desired to bring life to this world. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to Eudora, Tanithil had spent many nights making sure Eudora wouldn’t be able to bear children through his Alteration abilities, drugging her periodically to complete this work. Years and years would go by, the Crusades of Itris beginning and no luck with children. Eudora began to view herself as a failure of her race once more, now in her 80s. She would once again break down to Tanithil, crying to him and apologizing for continuing to be a failure and disappoint him and her race. He, still the soft man he was with her, would attempt to soothe her, letting her know that she could make it up to him and Kinos by assisting him with continuing his research with the lesser races, that he may be able to find a cure for her inability to be a good high elf. Eudora, uncertain even with her desperation to appease him, would tell him she would need to think on this. This angered Tanithil, though he would never raise a hand or even his voice at her, instead allowing her the time to think on this.

This of course, wasn’t truly the case. Tanithil, with Eudora would go out to assist in being medics for those fighting against Itiris in Falkvard and around, here Tanithil would be injured gravely, making him bed bound and forcing himself and Eudora to return to Barkamsted for him to heal. Eudora took diligent care of Tanithil, though he would lose the ability to walk and the majority of the movement in his left arm. Eudora was crushed by this, seeing her efforts as incapable and pointless as she tried to fix him. Tanithil, still her rock in these moments, would once again attempt to comfort her, telling her she could do better, that she would need to continue his research to find what would fix them both. That she must pursue Alteration to seek this research. She once again, thinking of that small child, still couldn’t agree, even with her now crippled lover and herself infertile. She instead swore she would find help for him, as Falkvard was now home to many skilled and powerful people. Tanithil hissed at her, cursing her for seeking the help of other less fortunate people. This would be the first time he would lose his temper at Eudora, which frightened her greatly. She didn’t understand his unwillingness to seek care for his disabilities, though she would be unaware of his organized attempt to cripple himself to convince her to do what he wanted her to do. Though, this frightened her enough to at least appease him as he would begin threatening his own life if she did not agree to his wishes. Not wishing to lose him more than she had, and still desperate to find a cure for her own infertility, this was it for her. She would wait until after the second long winter ended to begin preparation of moving to Falkvard to seek training in the magics she had since only dabbled in until now. Now she was ready to move to Falkvard, determined to move Tanithil with her once she had settled into the city she had now associated with the death of her mother, and the loss of her gentle lover

Magic Biography:

Growing up as a High Elf, Eudora was always surrounded by magic, especially Holy and Elemental aspects, with her mother being a Holy mage herself, she was quite familiar with the use of blessings and its benefit in a healing situation with her environment constantly being that of a medical field. Aiobhinn, her mother, would offer her a fire trinket for the first time when Eudora was around 15, instructing her to use it to help cauterize a wound her and Eudora were working on together at the time. Nervous but knowing her mother was here to help, Eudora would begin to focus, searching for a feeling of warmth that soon extended from her, through the trinket, and out her hand in a small spark. With guidance and absolute excitement Eudora was able to do as instructed, albeit messily and not without a few errors. Eudora herself would only ever dabble in magics from here, her mother restricting her use of magic with her ability to perform procedures believing her to still need to learn the basics. So Eudora never really explored outside of some holy spells and fire and ice to help with simple medical tasks with the weaker trinkets the clinic would have. She was always encouraged to go into Alteration and Fire by her fiance, Tanithil and he would even let her try his trinket for some procedures he watched. She found it fascinating and yet incredibly exhausting, but her interest in it never faded.

Please describe the magic system, including its limitations in your own words:

A trinket and a caster would be needed for the use of magic of any notable level, a trinket being an item for the caster to channel magic through the trinket of certain aspects depending on the trinket’s form and the caster’s abilities. A trinket of Strong level in say, Fire aspect, would only be able to perform spells up to a strong level, even if the caster is perhaps of Wondrous level in their abilities with Fire. Though, if the caster was only of Medium strength in Fire, they would only be able to cast up to Medium strength fire spells through their Strong Fire trinket. This, of course, is only partially the case, as a caster could indeed attempt to cast beyond their strength or beyond their stamina, but it would most definitely be strenuous to the point of injury or even death. Similarly, if one was to attempt to strain a trinket beyond its own strength, you would find yourself incapable and perhaps exhausted by the effort.
In a similar vein, a caster is limited by their stamina. With strength of casting this only allows them to cast safely within their stamina, but it also means they can only cast so much before fatigue will become too much like with overcasting beyond your strength. Spell slots are limited to 5 of your strongest level of casting, which is applicable to all your aspects. Being a strong holy mage and a weak earth mage means casting a weak earth spell would still count to your 5 slots of strongest level.
With casting one must be able to see what they are attempting to do, whether that be their target or just line of sight of their attempted effect. If blinded or looking away, the mage will be unable to perform their task effectively if it all. They are also limited by environment and the laws of reality (physics) which can also be used to their advantage

Please describe how you would use a weak trinket with your characters first/only aspect:

Being as fire would be the first of the aspects her mother would allow her to explore, she would frequently use Weak fire trinkets to perform simple cauterizations of wounds, heating of salves, and warming of tools when in surgeries. She, in her early years of using these, would search for the warmth of fire inside herself before the trinket and then pushing through, always attempting to feel the spell before casting it. This would have led to unintentional burning of her own hands when performing small procedures, though she felt that understanding what she was doing on others with herself when it came to magic made her more focused.

This application is Pending.

Thank you for your patience! Most of this application is well-written and ready to go, but I have some issue with the magic biography and limitations, which are somewhat lacking. I would like a bit more information in the magic biography: how Eudora came to use her first trinket, how she learned of her affinity to magic, anything of that sort. For the magic limitations I would like a clearer understanding to be shown for the rules related to casting magic such as the requirement of sight and concentration, as well as what happens when casting greater levels of magic through a weaker trinket.

Once edits have been made, please ping me and another review will follow shortly!
